In Nursery for Black History Month, we read the following books: Janine and the Carnival and Nini and the Carnival, both set in Notting Hill Carnival which was our topic.
For immersive learning experiences we can see the children:
- Playing percussion instruments (Physical Development and Art and Expressive Design)
- Listening and repeating simple rhythms on percussion instruments (Phonics)
- Making and wearing costumes (Art and Expressive design)
Some children came in traditional costumes representing their cultures. We also tried fruits from the Carribbean such as mangoes, pineapples and avocados. Some children are not in photographs as they don't have photo permissions, in these cases they brought their costumes or percussion instruments home with them.
